Hamilton-area boy critically injured in crash that seriously injures his brother

ALLEGAN COUNTY, MI -- A Hamilton-area boy was critically injured this morning in a broad-side crash that seriously injured his older brother, who was driving, sheriff's deputies said. The critically injured boy, age 11 or 12, was airlifted from the scene at 140th Avenue and 46th Street and taken to Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital. His 17-year-old brother suffered severe injuries, too, and was taken by ambulance to Holland Hospital, police said. The other driver suffered minor injuries. Police said the brothers were traveling south on 46th when their car went through a stop sign at 140th, where the car was struck by an eastbound pickup. Police did not know why the driver missed the stop sign. The crash was reported at 7:16 a.m. in Overisel Township. The pickup truck struck the car in the passenger side where the younger brother was seated in back. Both vehicles rolled over into a field. Police are on scene taking measurements and photos of the damaged vehicles. All occupants were wearing seat belts, police said. Police withheld the names of those involved in the crash.

Prairieville Township boy hit by car on South Norris Road

PRAIRIEVILLE, MI — A five-year-old boy was taken to Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo Tuesday night after being seriously injured by a car on South Norris Road near Pine Lake Road in Prairieville Township. According to a news release from the Barry County Sheriff's Department, the boy was struck by a northbound vehicle shortly before 6 p.m. The driver of the vehicle was not injured. Alcohol is not a factor in the crash, authorities said. The Barry County Sheriff's Department was assisted by the Barry Township Police Department and Pine Lake Fire Department.

6:34 a.m. EDT, June 5, 2012 PRAIRIEVILLE TOWNSHIP— A five year old boy is recovering after he was hit by a vehicle in Barry County Monday evening. The Barry County Sheriff's Department says a northbound vehicle hit the boy at South Norris Road near Pine Lake Road in Prairieville Township around 5:50 p.m. The boy, whose name isn't being released, was taken to Borgess Hospital with serious injuries, while the driver was not injured. Deputies tell FOX 17 alcohol is not a factor in the crash.

Deer carcass on I-94 leads to rollover crash, two passengers ejected

UNION PIER, MI — Two back-seat passengers were thrown from a car as it rolled in the median of I-94 after the driver swerved to miss a deer carcass lying in the far left eastbound lane. According to Sgt. Steve Campbell of the Berrien County Sheriff's Department, at 11:02 a.m. Sunday, Neydi Funez, 20, of Chicago, swerved the 2003 Jeep she was driving, went off the road, struck the barrier cable, and the car flipped into the median, ejecting back-seat passengers Ana Funez, 42, and Cynthia Rivas, 42, also of Chicago. The women were airlifted to a hospital in South Bend, he said; their injuries were not life-threatening. The driver suffered minor injuries; front seat passenger Cesar Diaz was not injured, Campbell said. One lane was closed and traffic was slowed for three hours following the crash, Campbell said.

Passenger hurt when car rolls over near Dowagiac

According to a news release from the Cass County Sheriff's Department, Christina Lara, 30, of Dowagiac, northbound on M 51 at about 7:20 p.m., lost control of her vehicle when a passenger became distressed. Her vehicle went off the road, overturning and striking a sign and a tree. The passenger was injured and transported by ambulance to Borgess Lee Memorial Hospital in Dowagiac for treatment. No one else was injured in this crash. It is no immediately known if all occupants were using safety belts, nor were the age and condition of the passenger known. Assisting were Pride Care Ambulance service and Dowagiac City Police.

12-year-old critically injured in crash near Hamilton

ALLEGAN COUNTY, MI -- A 12-year-old was being transported by helicopter this morning to Spectrum Health Butterworth hospital, with critical injuries, after a crash between a pickup and car near Hamilton. The child was trapped in the backseat of the car after the 7:15 a.m. crash at 140th Avenue and 46th Street. The driver of the car also was reportedly hurt. Aero Med medics told dispatchers that the child was unresponsive after being extricated form the car, a process that took 15 to 20 minutes. The child was being flown to the hospital with "multi-system trauma." The car was t-boned at the intersection, but it was not clear which driver was at fault.

3 hurt after 2 vehicles collide, One victim is in critical condition

BERTRAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) - Three people were hurt when two vehicles collided on a Berrien County road. Heather Baker, 23, from South Bend, Ind. suffered critical injuries and is at South Bend Memorial Hospital. Her passenger -- Roman Estrada, 34, from South Bend -- was treated and released from the hospital. The other driver, who was not identified in a news release, was also treated and released. Police said Baker was driving about 12:30 a.m. Sunday and crossed the center lane of U.S. 12 west of Bakertown Road in Bertrand Township. Her vehicle then went into the path of the other vehicle. The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
